Born: 1/1/1849 Armagh, Northern Ireland A WG Hewitt died in Coolgardie in 1906. Edwin G Hewitt died in Coolgardie in 1909. Was this his son? Is this the first instance of the name Edwin in the family? Mentioned in J.J. Birth Certificate Notes: Victoria and its Metropolis, p. 642 "Hewitt, W.G., East Prahran, may almost be called a native of Victoria, for though actually born in Ireland in 1849, he in the following year came to Melbourne, where he was educated. In 1872 he commenced contracting, and has since done a very large business. Among the many buildings done by this gentleman are the additions to the Convent at Abbotsford, the Roman Catholic School (St. Kilda), Messrs. W.H. Rocke and Co.'s and Illinworth and Bradshaw's warehouses, and the opposite corner known as Germain Nicholson's block, the Temperance buildings and offices, Swanston-Street (one of the landmarks of Melbourne), and many other prominent buildings throughout the city and suburbs.
