Obituary published in the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle on Monday 23 October 1967 reads: Dies on Sunday John M. Schaedel, retired Laramie County Welfare director, died Sunday at DePaul Hospital after a long illness. He was 81. Schaedel served as welfare director for the county for 20 years. He retired Jan. 1, 1956. Born at Crowley, La., Sept. 19, 1886, Schaedel moved with his family to Bay City, Tex., in 1900. Later he attended West Texas Military Academy at San Antonio. Schaedel served in the Marine Corps in 1917 and 1918 and was stationed at Parris Island, N.C., during World War I. He was secretary of the Texas Experiment Station System at Texas A and M College, Bryan, for 18 years. Schaedel and the former Grace Logan, a member of a pioneer Cheyenne family, were married in 1926. Mrs. Schaedel is the daughter of the late Er nest Logan. The Schaedels moved to Cheyenne in 1929. The family home is at 609 E. 27th St. Schaedel was a member of the Congregational Church, American Legion and Rocky Mountain Lodge No. 40, AF and AM, and was active in the Littie Theater workshop in its early years. One of his greatest interests was his garden. Schaedel is survived by his wife; and four sisters and a brother, Mrs. G. Milton Tannehill of Urania. La., Mrs. Clyde Bennett Kendall and Mrs. Roy A. Hill, both of Monroe, N. C, Mrs. C. C. Carr of Shreveport, La., and Frank Schaedel of Sallas. A number of nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schrader Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harvey Cutting officiating.
