August Frederic Handke, 96, longtime Colorado Springs resident, died at home December 3. 2008. He was born December 19, 1911 in Windsor, Colorado to Margaretta Jane Sinton and August Martin Handke and moved to Colorado Springs shortly thereafter.

He graduated from Colorado Springs (Palmer) High School and then attended Stanford University. In 1934 he graduated from Colorado College. He then returned for a year at Stanford Business School with his future wife of 66 years, Lillian Adelaide Wallberg. They were married September 6, 1936. He later completed a Masters degree in education from Colorado College and an M.B.A. from the University of Houston. He taught drama at Colorado Springs (Palmer) High School, worked in life insurance, and taught finance at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri.

He is survived by his daughters Jan Louise Handke of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Margaretta Sinton Handke (Leigh Pomeroy) of Mankato, Minnesota, twin grandsons Ross Pomeroy and Wiltam Frederic Handke, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death in September, 2003 by his wife Lilian, in March, 1976 by his youngest daughter Christine Walaberg Handke, and by his parents.

Memoral services will be 11:30 am. Saturday December 20 at Chapel of Our Savior Episcopal Church, 8 Fourth St. 80906. Canned good donations to Care and Share food bank welcomed. A reception will follow.
