His family is covered in "The Candee Genealogy - With Notices of Allied Families of Allyn, Catlin, Cooke, Mallery, Newell, Norton, Pynchon and Wadsworth" (1882) by Charles C. Baldwin; available from the New England Historic Genealogical Society Library.
His line is from Zaccheus, Samuel, Caleb, Nehemiah, Eber, to Fernando Cortez. He is called Cortiz in the letters. Cortez and Maria were married "out of meeting" by Magistrate J. Potter, J.P., probably a relative of his mother. His parents lived in Pompey, Onondaga Co, Cazenovia, and in Pontiac or Evans, Erie Co, all in NY. Eber died in Pontiac in Feb (get pg 58-59 from Candee book)
