GENERAL NOTES | ||
Bowen is about 180 km north of Mackay, on the first harbour after the Whitsunday Islands. As with most other coastal towns, it was the port that gave it initial importance, plus the access to the hinterland, and was originally known as Port Denison.
About 80 km inland is the coal mining town of Collinsville, which has a rail line to the loadout terminal at Abbots Point, just north of Bowen. The area is also known for the extensive vegetable and melon farms. Not all headstones are included in this listing, for the cemetery is quite a large one. Updates will be made when the formatting of the main file is complete, and when more readings are taken.
