Canadian Pacific Steamships - Empress of Britain

The Empress of Britain was built by Fairfield Shipbuilding in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland. She was launched on 11 November 1905.

The 14,189-ton vessel had a length of 458.8 feet, and her beam was 65.7 feet.

The ship had two funnels, two masts, twin propellers and an average speed of 18 knots.

There was accommodation for 310 first-class passengers, 470 second-class passengers and 730 third-class passengers.

SS Empress of Britain
It would appear from the above that Frederick went to Canada and arrived at Québec on the Empress of Britain in September 1921. He became resident in Toronto. His wife Josephine arrived in Québec on the SS Saturnia in November 1922 and together, on the 24 November 1922, they emigrated to the Unites States via Detroit enroute to his brother Richard who had emigrated in 1920 and lived at 186 Callender Avenue Detroit, Michigan.

Served with the 9th Battallion of Royal Ulster Fusillers 1914-1918. One of only two to survive the Battle of Mons. On recuperation he was sent to Ypes instead of sick leave.
