Kentucky Births and Christenings, 1839-1960
Name: Preston S. Sinton Gender: Male Birth Date: 02 Mar 1900 Birthplace: Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky Father's Name: Harry Sinton Mother's Name: Annie Sinton Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I01414-9 System Origin: Kentucky-EASy Source Film Number: 209689 Reference Number: V1, pg 176 [RFSS Aug 2011] They married at "Bethesda By the Sea" (Episcopal) in Palm Beach, Florida. The following notes are from a letter to jhj from Tish Sinton, 10 June 1986. ("The only marriage for both, and there are no children.") "Pres always painted an autobiographical picture of (his mother) by comments (precise and dramatic, very protective of him. Once I said "Sorry I never knew your mother, know she would have loved me... so much in common". He answered, "Mother would never love anyone who married me." So evidently she was very possessive! Pres was an M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) graduate in Engineering. He served as Chief Engineer of the State of Kentucky under 3 Governors, Keen Johnson, S. Willis and "Happy" Chandler. This was while his mother lived. After we were married he had his own business "Consulting Engineers" until he retired." Grace and Annie vacationed in Michigan, and Virginia, and spent winters in Florida each year. Harry became a salesman (Insurance, I think) and traveled. We have pictures of Grace in dances, events and programs while she was single. Pres adored her." Referring to the letter from "the Old Maids" (see letter under Kate B. Sinton, above) Tish says, "Evidently Annie and Harry were a bit estranged when he died at Grace's home here in Louisville and Pres and his mother lived in their home. However all attended funeral and according to Pres, seemed to be in great communion. Grace married John Milburn and with (their) two sons moved to Covington, Kentucky. There her husband died and she later married Hall Hagemeyer of Park Road, Fort Mitchell Heights. He later died. Pres and I visited in Cincinnati once and called Graces's home, she was in New York, but we talked to her son Frank Sinton Milburn. Sinton (he went by the name Sinton) came by our hotel to see us. He was a handsome genteel gentleman, who was working in radio and T.V. circa 1954. Years later Pres learned through a friend that Grace had died (don't know the year). He was greatly grieved, he was so fond of her. There was for years a famous hotel in Cincinnati "Sinton Hotel". Last few years it was torn down, Also there is a portrait of a Sinton in the Museum there. (See David Sinton of Cincinnati and his daughter Annie, above). Pres's mother named Pres after Preston Brown Scott, Surgeon General of the Army of the Confederacy. He delivered Pres and was a great friend and admirer of Mrs. Sinton. Pres used the name "Preston Brown Scott Sinton" for a long time until kids teased him, and he dropped "Brown". Pres is a precious man, has been very ill and not improving much. He is special, I don't let him want for anything." Back to the "Old Maids", Pres said they were "Pillars of St. Marks Episcopal Church here. All I know is from our conversations and the papers."
