GROS_644-04_30_011 He is believed to have come from a middle or upper class wealthy family. He contracted measles when young and due to poor nursing he was left either partially sighted or totally blind. The family are believed to have lived in the Salford area of Manchester, England, while his wife came from Hull, Yorkshire. We suspect that she might have been a servant to the family and John was dis-owned for marrying below his station. He is thought to have worked for a Scientific Instrument & Organ company in Glasgow, as an organ tuner and organist.
