Cdr. Carlson was commissioned and received his wings as a Naval Aviator on August 26, 1948. [JHJ] Obituary published in the Pensacola News Journal on 20 September 2008 LT CMDR, US NAVY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA Harry Francis Carlson, Jr., 82 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away September 16, 2008. Harry was born in Pensacola on October 19, 1925, the son of Capt. Harry F. Carlson and Augusta A. Carlson, who are buried at Barrancas National Cemetery. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1943, entered the U.S. Navy that year and in 1948 was commissioned and designated a Naval Aviator. In 1949 he married Caryl Sinton at the Naval Air Station Chapel in Pensacola, after which they moved to Quonset Point, Rhode Island. In 1952 he was a flight instructor at NAS Corry Field. In 1955 he was released from active duty and entered Georgia Tech. Harry graduated in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed in Atlanta with the Atlanta Gas Light Co. as a Professional Engineer until 1988 when he retired and moved to Gulf Breeze. He and Caryl joined the Gulf Breeze Methodist Church. In 2005 they moved to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Georgia where they attended St. Paul United Methodist Church. Harry's survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Caryl; a son, Michael and his wife Lisa, of Orinda, California; and a daughter, Christine of Marietta, Georgia. He is also survived by a grandson, Cameron, also of Orinda, California. Graveside services and interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery, 9:30 am, Monday, September 22, 2008. Dr. Herb Sadler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the National Museum of Naval Aviation. Little Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, GA and Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, FL 32506 are in charge of local arrangements. [RFSS Sep 2013]
