Rev. Edwin C. Schumacher passed away September 12, 2004, at the age of 80.

Ed was Executive Director of the Wyoming Conference Children's Home for eighteen years.

He also served churches on the Binghamton District and at Factoryville on the Scranton District until he retired in 1991.

His funeral service was on September 18, at the Ogden-Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 1061 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY.

Rev. Edwin C. Schumacher of Binghamton

Rev. Edwin C. Schumacher, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2004, surrounded by his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, William R. and Deanie Sinton Schumacher. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Beryl C. Schumacher; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Robert Smythe; four sons and daughter-in-law, William and Pamela Schumacher, Kenneth, Timothy and James Schumacher; grandchildren, Erin, Calvin and Geoffrey Smythe, and Ben and Becca Smith; brother, Raymond Schumacher; and sister, Edith Havens; several nieces, nephews and their families.

Edwin graduated from Binghamton Central High in 1943. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Harpur College followed by a Master's of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a minister of the Methodist Church in 1955. In his service to the United Methodist Church he pastored eight congregations and served, for 18 years, as Executive Director of the Children's Home of the Wyoming Conference. Soon after retirement he was Pastor of Visitation at Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church, and then was made Pastor Emeritus. He served as Chaplain in countless service organizations. He was the President of the Board of Directors of the Broome/Tioga ARC, President of the Southern Tier Blood Service American Red Cross, and Chaplain of the AARP in Binghamton. He was a willing speaker for various church, Masonic and community organizations around the state. Ed was raised a Master Mason in Smithboro Lodge and is currently affiliated with the Maine Lodge. He was Commander in Chief of the Scottish Rite Bodies, received the Distinguished Service Award from the York Rite Bodies, was a 33rd Degree Mason and served the Grand Lodge of NY as Grand Chaplain from 1963 until 1991. He truly enjoyed being with people and was gifted with an endless sense of humor. We will miss him greatly.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church with Rev. Horace Brown King, Rev. Mark Marino, Rev. Alan R. Jagger and Rev. Jose Valencia officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, Friday from 3-7 p.m.

A Masonic service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. by the Maine Lodge #399 F. A. & M. In Ed's memory, contributions may be made to: Broome Tioga ARC, 125 Cutler Pond Road, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, Children's Home of Wyoming Conference, 1182 Chenango Street, Binghamton N.Y. 13901, or the Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 1061 Chenango Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13901.
