GENERAL NOTES
News report published in the Portadown Times, Friday 8 Aug 2003 reads
GILFORD FREE PRESBYTERIAN MINISTER IS KILLED IN CRASH.
The minister of Gilford Free Presbyterian Church, the Rev David Sinton, was killed in a car crash on Monday.

The burial was yesterday (Thursday) in his home town of Tandragee.

Mr. Sinton (39) was driving his MG Midget car when it was involved in a three-vehicle crash on the A1 near Hillsborough.

The other cars involved were a Ford Fiesta, in which a woman sustained minor injuries, and a Fiat Punto. A woman and child in the vehicle were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, although their injuries are not life-threatening.

The accident happened at around 3.30 in the afternoon, and the road, part of the main Belfast - Dublin route, was closed for around five hours while police investigated the crash.

Mr. Sinton, married to Ruth, was the father of two sons, Richard (15) and Andrew (12), and was minister at Gilford Free Presbyterian Church for 12 years.

MONAGHAN

He previously served at Coragarry Free Presbyterian Church in Monaghan, and then transferred to Gilford where the church was formerly a Methodist Meeting House.

He was a man of great energy and commitment, and oversaw major renovations in the growing congregration.

Yesterday's services were conducted by Dr. Ian Paisley, Moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church, who praised Mr. Sinton as a faithful and caring pastor to the Gilford people, adding that his death was a great blow, both to the family and to the church.

The Rev. Austin Allen, minister at Tandragee Free Presbyterian Church, said, "David was a very Godly man, with a pleasant personality and a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by us all."

The burial services were at Lurgan Free Presbyterian Church and at Mr. Sinton's home, followed by interment in Tandragee.
